BRIEF BIO

Hamid Ajbar was born in the city of Chefchaouen, Morroco, to a family of musicians. He specializes in both classical Andalusian and Middle Eastern singing, and also plays violin lap style, in the traditional technique of northern Africa. He leads and directs CusCus Flamenco and Jinnan al Andalus, and is dedicated to the preserving of these musical genres both in Spain and in other countries, where he has taken part in several events and festivals.

JINNAN AL ANDALUS

Jinnan Al Andalus – Gardens of Al Andalus is a Sufi music ensemble whose repertoire is based on the spiritual poetry of Sufi mystics Ibn Arabi, Rabia Al Adawiyya, Shushtari, Busayri amongst others, in a musical journey from IXth century Cordoba to Damascus. Our repertoire includes the musical styles of Al Andalus, North Africa and the Middle East, and the beauty of the melodies and poetry touch everyone´s heart.

CUSCUS FLAMENCO - AIRE ANDALUSÍ

In the same way that the blend of cous cous spices surround us  with its exotic fragrance and exquisite flavor, CusCus-Flamenco´s music fills us with its enchantment and mistery, sentiment and spirit. A one on one between the most profound flamenco singing and Arab-Andalusian lyrical poetry in its purest form, transports us to an encounter between cultures where art flows in its maximum capacity, bringing out the best of each tradition through a musical language that does not admit to either barriers or frontiers.
